I am directed by the Asst. Commissioner to call upon you for an early reply to the following inquiries in order to make a report called for by Congress.- viz:
1st The amount of land included in the Government Farms, so called, in charge of the Bureau in the year 1865- and the value of crops raised thereon.
2. The number of buildings occupied by the Bureau on the 1st day of September 1865.
3. The amount of rent claimed for all lands and buildings previously occupied up to April 1st 1866, by the owners or pretended owners thereof
4th The value of personal property, if any, seized and applied to the uses of the Bureau.-

You are hereby appointed Asst. Superintendent, Bureau R.F. and A.L. for King William Co. Va. with Hd. Quarters at King William Court House, relieving 1st Lt. John C. Chance V.R.C. who will turn over to you all books, papers and other property belonging to the Bureau. On arriving at your Station you will at once report by letter to Genl S.C. Armstrong Supt. 9th Dist. Fort Monroe Va. for instructions.
