Captain,
On Tuesday last a case was heard by the Mayor of Richmond Va. by a freedman charging Mr. Albert Dorody with secreting and harboring the freedman's minor daughter Laura Smith, which case was discharged.
Afterwards it is understood that the same case was heard before Judge Lyon's on a writ of Habeas Corpus the father seeking the custody of his child.
The Asst. Commissioner directs that you investigate the whole case, including the records of both courts and make a full report to these Hd. Quarters.
