Dear Tommie:

Mr. de Hauke and I have both recently heard from Mr. Alfred Neumeyer of Mills College in reference to an exhibition which he is planning to have around the middle of February to the end of March and for which he would like to borrow a group of drawings and water colors. He has written to me specifically regarding the Ingres drawing, and I believe he is under the impression that it is owned by me personally. Nevertheless, we still have the drawing here and will be very glad to lend it together with certain other things which he might to have.

He was kind enough to send me a catalogue of their last year's exhibition of Old Master Drawings in which I noticed that a great may had been lent by Mr. Roy Vernon Sowers who, it seems, lives in San Francisco.

I appeal to your ever-generous self for further information on this gentleman who, I confess, is totally unknown to me, and I should appreciate any information you could give me regarding him; also as to the general nature and quality of the things which he has.

While we are on this subect, there is something else I should like to ask you about. In a recent book which has been published on Degas, there is a colored reproduction of a Ballet subect in oil belonging to a Mrs. Ester Fiske Hammond who lives in Santa Barbara. In referring to the Social Register, I find that there is a lady by this name listed in Boston, but with an address which is not at all Bostonian. Possibly she is used to live there and today lives in Santa Barbara. In any case, do you happen to know here, and what she has bought recently or possibly inherited many years ago.

Many, many thanks for any and all information you can give me regarding the above.

I say Walter Heil, but only briefly, last week, and it is absolutely staggering what he has managed to obtain for the San Francisco Fair. I for one shall make every effort to come out to the Coast to see this exhibition, and I am sure that it will attain the grat success which you all are hoping for.

                                            t.s.v.p.
