Dear Tommy:

I hasten to write you concerning the prices on the pictures you wrote about as I have just had word from Mr. Seligmann from Paris.

Will you be good enough to tell Dr. Heil that the prices on our invoice are without exception all very near cost, which I had previously suspected and just had verified by the office here. Nevertheless, we are all anxious to do business these days, which is only natural, and Mr. Seligmann cabled me that he would listen to any reasonable offer on any of the five pictures which we lent you for the exhibition. In other words if you have a stipulated sum to spend, perhaps it might approach the prices of the Catena and the Tiepolo "St. Sebastien", respectively. On the other hand, perhaps the museum could find a way to obtain a donation of sorts to make up any small difference between what you might have on hand and what figure we would accept.

I hope that you will give this due consideration, bearing in mind that not only I, personally, but my firm, will do everything in our power to facilitate the sale of any of these pictures. It would give us inestimable pleasure to be represented in the Legion of Honor.

Looking forward to hearing from you with some good news regarding the above,

As ever, with all good wishes,

Sincerely,

(Robert M. Levy)

P.S. We would even be willing to take a loss on certain of these pictures.
