Dear Tommy:

I only got back to New York the night before last, and Helen arrived simultaneously from Florida. I am glad to say that we both arrived safe and sound and in the pink of condition, although I was only 10 hours late, still due to the floods.

Your letter greeted Helen on her arrival, and we both enjoyed it no end. It was really very kind and thoughtful of you to write her and she is going to drop you a few lines in a day or so.

I don't think I need to tell you how much I enjoyed being with you and Francesca again, if only briefly, and really do hope that you both can get to New York in the reasonably near future, so that we can show you what hospitality is like here in the East.

My last few days in Los Angeles were a continuation of the previous nightmare, although all finished for the best, and I am glad to say that I was somewhat successful in my venture.

Have you had a chance to talk to Mrs. Spreckels yet and show her the photograph of the Napoleon tapestry? I cannot thank you enough for anything that you can possibly do for me or on my behalf, in this matter and I should, of course, appreciate your keeping me posted. At the same time, I am going to write Mrs. Spreckels today asking her what her reactions were and thanking her also for tea that afternoon.

I have to cut this short now as somebody is waiting to see me in the gallery, but in any case, with all sorts of good wishes and renewed thanks to you both,
As ever -
Yours,
