CALIFORNIA PALACE OF THE LEGION OF HONOR
Lincoln Park
San Francisco, California

OFFICE OF THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

as there was illness in his family which made it necessary for him to get back to Cleveland as promptly as possible. After spending about three days here, Milliken went back to Pasadena. I saw quite a lot of him while he was here but I must confess that it would have been a lot more fun to see Harry whom I have not seen for years.

What is the news of Eddie? He wired us in December (when our child appeared) that he planned to come out in June. I believe that there is some convention of psychoanalysts scheduled to take place here at that time. Other than that I have not heard of his recent doings. I don't believe that my sister has seen him since December.

At the moment Shaeffer is in town - with a collection of some thirty paintings at the San Francisco Museum. I lunched with him and Anna Henle (do you know her?) last week. The show is very nice and I am sorry that we did not have it here. Incidentally, while my thoughts are wandering, it seems to me that you ought to meet the Jean Dupuys when you are in Paris again. Mrs. D. is Dorothy Spreckels. Perhaps you already know them. Dorothy is a most attractive person. She is the daughter of our Mrs. Spreckels and her husband is the son of the Mme. Dupuy who was Helen Brown of Chicago - you know, the very capable newspaper woman who manages all of her late husbands large journalistic interests. Dorothy was out here last year but lives in Paris most of the time. She is the sort of person who, properly handled,- and I chose my words advisedly - might be well worth your attention.

Well, I don't suppose that I have succeeded in persuading you to buy a ticket to San Francisco, but in any case you know how much we want to see you and if that doesn't break you down we might as well give up!

Our fondest greetings to you. It was grand of you to call and if nothing comes of all this prattle, just remember that we'll be looking forward to seeing you one fine day.

As ever,
Tom
