July 21, 1936.

Dear Tom:

Forgive my verybelated [[very belated]] reply to your kind letter of July 11, but I have been away for a few days, and could only answer today.

I am ever so grateful to you for your lengthy and interesting explanations of the situation in California, and frankly I am terribly eager to go now more than ever. Unfortunately, the decision does not rest entirely with me, as there are one or two thins calling be back east, and I must further hear from Paris about certain matters. However, I expect news the of this week, and if I can make it, will fly to take the train to San Francisco some time next week, in which case, I will wire you of course.

I appreciate tremendously the information about your two young friends, and look forward to meeting them should I come out. Otherwise, I hope it will be possible to meet them some other time.

Hold you thumbs for me, and perhaps Dame Fortune will smile, and I will be in San Francisco before you can say "California Palace of the Legion of Honor"-----whew!

With best wishes, as ever,

Sincerely,

Mr. Thomas C. Howe,
California Palace of the Legion of Honor,
San Francisco, Cal.
