Dear Tom:

I have been spending some time here (near Chicago) with my in-laws and am still somewhat undecided about coming to California in the near future. As you know I have never been out, and so am anxious on my first trip to see as much as possible. Will it be possible to see the private collections the end of this month or during August, or are all of the people away? Also, do you feel from a business point of view it might be worth my while at this time? And finally, but hardly least, will you be in San Francisco all summer or do you migrate to some secluded haven as well?

I should be deeply grateful to you if you could let me know all about these things, as frankly, I am just at the deliberation point, and cannot decide whether to come or not, although when I last saw you in New York, it was more or less a foregone conclusion. I suppose I will also go the inevitable Los Angeles and Hollywood, as all roads seem to point there, but I have been told I should never say this to. San Franciscan.

In any case, do let me hear from you shortly, and I am hopeful of getting a persuasive, though scrupulously honest, letter from you, encouraging my presence in your fair state.

As ever, with best greetings,
Yours sincerely,

(Robert M. Levy)
