Mr. Germain Seligman,
We are now in the final stages of our catalogue raisonne of Master French Drawings from the collection of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, and we have a few questions beyond those you so kindly answered in our correspondence of last spring.
As you know, we have a Boilly drawing, [[underlined]] Study for "La Vaccine" [[/underlined]] (please see enclosed xeroxes), purchased by us in 1967 from Mr Georges de Batz; Mr. de Batz had purchased the drawing from your firm in 1951. We would like to know if this drawing is the same drawing that was exhibited in the "Exposition L.-L. Boilly" at MM. Jacques Seligmann & Fils, Paris, 1930 (no. 119). We enclose a xerox of the catalogue title and entry pages.
Our second question deals with another Boilly drawing in our collection, [[underlined]] Studies of Portraits [[/underlined]] (xeroxes enclosed). We purchased this drawing from Mr. de Batz in 1967. He reputedly bought it directly from the Boilly family, but we have been unable to berity this information. Is it possible that this Boilly once belonged to your firm? Have you an pertinent information in your records?
Forgive us for taking valuable time from your schedule. We would be most grateful for any information you can provide us, bringing us closer to our goal of complete and accurate documentation. Our press deadline is fast approaching, and we would greatly appreciate a reply at your earliest opportunity.
With all the best wishes and holiday greetings to you and your wife, I remain,
Most sincerely yours,
Phyllis Hattis
