"AN ACROBAT"

Sepia wash: 14x10" 1899

Signed with monogram lower left. "Joyant" stamp lower right. 

A stocky young athlete is lifting a weight, his right arm stretched out towards the observer. A huge dumbbell lies on the ground behind the figure.

Inscribed on the back in Felix Feneon's own handwriting(?) "Seurat, la Baignade" and the numeral 367.

Study for "La Baignade" 1883-34, one of the artists major works now in the Tate Galery, London.

This drawing shows the right leg of a person who is apparently lying down, from a little above the knee.
