SEURAT, Georges (1859-1891)

“THE LEG”

Conté crayon drawing: 9-1/4” x 12”

Inscribed on back in Felix Fénéon’s own handwriting (?) “Seurat, La Baignade” and the numeral 367.

Study for “La Baignade” 1883-84, one of the artist’s major works now in the Tate Gallery, London.

This drawing shows the right leg of a person who is apparently lying down, from a little above the knee.
