Whytal of December 12th & 24th. 1866. Major White will with as little "delay as possible purchase the heating apparatus specified in the endorsements "referred to, on the most advantageous terms practicable, and cause the same to be "shipped to the points where it is required, as pointed out by Colonel Whytal. This communication was received at this office on the 28th of December and on the same day the stoves were purchased of Miss Gregory Brol. it being necessary to manufacture the pipe, the latters were not ready for delivery until the 8th of January 1867, when together with the stoves they were transferred to Bvt Brigadier General A.P. Blunt Chief Qr. Mrs. of the Department of the Potomac for shipment, but owing to the river being frozen it was impossible to ship them by steamer as is customary and on the 14th of January I sent a communication to Gen'l Blunt stating that the urgency of the case required they be shipped by Rail, which was done at the earliest possible moment.
