last year; all the teachers of the Hampton schools have expressed themselves as feeling and seeing an increased interest in the educational work. Where the population as in Slabtown (which is principally owned by Capt. Wilder) and on the Edwards Farm, is comparatively settled, the schools are admirable, but have, it would seem, received no justice at the hands of Mr Alvord. As for the "Butler" and "Ward" schools especially, and concerning the fitness of the Supt, I have written to the Assn. repeatedly, and have urged, impatiently, definite measures which would increase the interest of the pupils, and make these schools an influence and a power in the community, have offered my own services as "organist" to help introduce more fully the attractive and always most happy influence of music. The Society cordially responded, and sent an instructor. The teachers are, today, in my opinion, more earnest than ever, have the confidence and affection of their pupils and the work is going ahead, perhaps not so rapidly as elsewhere, but very creditable.
