embarrassments in this field, which though serious, I am not at liberty to mention; they have given much attention to this place, have received suggestions in the Kindest spirit, are fully aware of whatever shortcomings on the part of their Agents might be shown.

There is unity in spirit and in effort, among all who are interested in freedmen, and, but a few days ago, a system of examination was resolved upon, by which the undersigned was to conduct, or assist in conducting certain exercises at stated terms in order to draw out the people and inspire fresh interest.

I do not think that, whatever may be "the matter with Armstrong", there has been a commendable want of interest, or energy in this work, nor that it is just, to do anything, but highly praise the untiring zeal and  remarkable success of many of the teachers in the field. 

Trusting that these statements may reach the source whence the letter that has elicited them, originated.
