printed pamphlet was largely distributed among Colored Troops.  I can furnish a copy of it if desired.

On the 1st of Nov. 1864, I was relieved and ordered up to the Frint, up to that time I had received money from only three or four recruits for deposit in this Savings Bank.  The Bank had not yet got under way.  So that, on quitting I left these sums, together with a silver watch belonging to one of the men in the hands of Capt. O. Brown, to be by him deposited in said Bank as soon as it should commence operations.  I took Capt. O. Browns personal receipts for these deposits.  These with all new military papers, are now in Massachusetts.  I have written to my correspondent forwarding him your letter - Edward Atkinson, 40 State St. Boston - requesting him to seek and examine those receipts; and if he should find one concerning the deposit of Lewis Johnson to send it at once to you.  With that receipt you or he can reclaim the money from Genl Brown, whom I have always found ready and happy to aid in such matters.

If on the other hand Mr. Atkinson does not find Lewis Johnsons receipt among the rest, then I can give you no further information for I received no further sums for deposit after the date abovename, nor can I
