of District No. 1. 
At Richmond Virginia. 

Your humble applicant appeals to you for that justice which is withheld from him. When Gen. Grant, withdrew his forces from Appomattox Co: Va. his Officers and men gave your Petitioner (he has a wife and [[strikethrough]] three [[/strikethrough]] two children) a mule which mule, he exchanged with a citizen, for a young horse, said young horse, your Petitioner Wyatt Wheeler, put in the possession of one certain John H. Cothrane of Appomattox Co: Va. to use and keep said horse for him, till satisfied for his care and trouble - and then return said horse to your petitioner - the said Cothrane has now had the horse (2. years) the horse has now become a fine horse and valuable and said Cothrane utterly refuses to deliver him to your petitioner. The Provost Marshal, Mr: Lacy - at Lynchburg, directed your petitioner, to Warrant, the said Cothrane for his horse -
