It will be seen that among the colored population the ages under (15) fifteen are in the greater proportion of 2.34 per-cent; from the ages of fifteen (15) to twenty (20) the two populations are about parallel; from twenty (20) to fifty (50) the white population is little more than two (2) per-cent in excess, and over fifty (50) it is nearly one (1) per-cent  greater; how much the result of the greater mortality in the middle and older ages of the colored people is due to want and negligence it is of course impossible to say, but from these tables  it appears that the proportion of children among the colored is not as excessive as is generally
