The demand for Mechanics labor is so fluctuating that no accurate results can be stated.  Oysterman range in their profits from $15 to $30_ per month with occasionally one who is more successful_  

House Service brings from $3_ to $12_ according to liberality of Employer or skill of Servant_

Having given a synopsis of the monthly income of some of the branches of industry, a summary of the different occupations under the headings of the census now follows_

"Common Laborers" are those who do crude manual labor_ generally farm hands, wood cutters, ditch diggers, &c &c_
 
"Mechanics" are Masons, Carpenters, Bricklayers, Blacksmith &c, not always implying a high degree of mechanical skill, though a small per-centage of the number could compete with those of their own trade from any section of the country

The number of "Employed by former owner" (32) is very small, and quite likely has been considerably
