I have resided on the farm of my Father Hon. Jos. Segar, called "Roseland," constantly from the beginning of Spring of 1865 to the current date, and during that time, twice took a census of the freedmen residing thereon. The last census was taken in the latter part of 1866, which last census I furnished to the Freedman's Bureau. Of those, who resided on the farm prior to August 1866, I should think that about one hundred and fifty remained there until the first of November 1866, and from that date until the first of January 1867. When the Government surrendered possession of the farm to my Father, its owner, they all moved off gradually, leaving only those (some 50 or more) who made arrangements with me, by which they could remain.
Given under my hand and seal this thrid day of September 1867.
