anxious to do what is right and for their best interests.  I do not doubt, but they are ignorant of the proper course to pursue, and to whom to apply for information.  I gave them such advise as I thot. would be beneficial, and to their interests.

I am satisfied that Capt Brooks is too conservative in his ideas, and not sufficiently energetic in giving them the information they so much require at the present time.

There are no schools in this County for the education of the Freedman.

There is a perceptable improvement in the condition of the Freedmen in regard to Temperance and Morality.

Tippling Shops are but seldom visited, and Tumults and Broils are scarcely known.
