I consulted with the speakers before the opening of the meeting and requested them to use their influence, and in their remarks to advise the colored people to abstain from to frequent meetings, and avoid by all means of giving offense to any.
   
I urged upon the Colored people the importance of industry, fidelity, and temperance and the importance of devoting all their spare time in providing means for the education of their children, instead of spending so much of their time at public meetings, which as they were managed were of very little use or benefit to them, or to any one; except those who sought their own agrandizant by such means.  I think that in many respects, the meeting will have a beneficial effect.  One. and I think the greatest cause of the present excited state of public feeling
