Thursday July 11 pm
Hon Joseph Mayo Mayor

Dear Sir
On examination of records at Clerks office, I find in the case of William Washington, he was sent to examining Court for larceny of a watch, remanded to Judge Lyons Court for trial, and on the final trial convicted, for petty larceny, and sent to Jail for twelve months, he was afterwards tried by Court of Magistrates on a true bill found against him for a misdemeanor, and fined by Jury, the Court ordering ten days imprisonment to commence at expiration of the term ordered by Judge Lyons.

You will see that we have nothing to do with the case, until he serves out the terms of imprisonment, or pardoned by Executive, then we may relive him of the fine, and he be released.

The representation of Washington that he is held for a fine is false, and I believe he is fully aware of the whole matter.

Respectfully,
Jno F. Reynolds
Recorder
