Howard Commissioner, General, In forwarding the names of Officers about to be mustered out of the service that I desired employed as Civilian Agents, I included the names of Bvt: Maj: J.R. Stone, Captain V.R.C, and Bvt: Maj: J.H. Remington, Captain V.R.C. I have learned this morning from the Paymaster of the District, that he has received official notice from the paymaster General, that the above named Officers are to be retained in the service. Please inform me if this information is correct, as no official notification of the retention in service of these Officers has reached me. I am, General Very respectfully Your obt.
