Sir:
   I have the honor to report the following sad occurrence with the attending circumstances.  Some time last summer a freedman named Alick Wilson stole two cows, and took them to Petersburg and offered them for sale, a warrant was issued for his arrest, but he succeeded in eluding the officers who tried to arrest him.  Monday the 18th inst two policemen, named Jos. W. Brooks and Robt F. Chambers, having learned that he was in the habit of coming to see his wife (who lived at Col Hargnans near the C.H.) concluded to try and arrest him that night.
