Sir,
I have the honor to state that on the 29th March, I rec'd a commission in the 44th U.S. Infty, with orders to report without delay to the commanding officer of my reg't.  In the hurry of moving I was unable to report to you.  I do so now.  Please convey to Gen'l Brown my thanks for the kind and courteous treatment I have rec'd while serving under his command.
