ST. FRANCIS MISSION
The Rosebud Educational Society
St. Francis, South Dakota

Mrs. Helen L. Peterson
Executive Director
National Congress of American Indians
Washington, D. C.

Dear Mrs. Peterson:
Enclosed is a check for five dollars ($5 ) as a contribution to further work of the NCAI.

My nine years of work among Indians - three with the Oglala, four with the Potowatomi, two with the Rosebud - have developed in me a great interest in the socio-economic problems of the Indian people. I am convinced that many of our moral problems stem directly from these poor environmental conditions. I am not the only missionary with this conviction. My fellow missionaries of North and South Dakota are so convinced of this too that they have chosen as the theme for their annual Conference: The Socio-economic Problems of the Indians.

Since I am the secretary of this Missionary Conference for the current year, I am very much interested in the literature you advertise as being available from your office. Would you kindly put me on your mailing list? Also would you send me whatever free background material is available on the major socio-economic problems and projects among Indians.

I will be more specific. Here are some of the precise topics we are interested in: An Evaluation of the Relocation Program; Vocational Training for Indians; Possibility of Locating Industries on Reservations; Current Threats to the Indian Land Base; NCAI View on Desirability of Preserving Distinct Cultural Identity; Problems and Proposed Helps for Indian Cattle Operators; Dangerous Developments in the Termination Policy; NCAI View on States Taking over Law and Order, etc.

I hope this is not too big an order, and that you will be able to send us some useful material. Asking God to bless the work of the NCAI, I am
Sincerely yours,
