Dear Mrs. Spencer, 

Being engaged in writing a magazine  article upon "Some Women artists in New York," I find great difficulty in obtaining trustworthy facts concerning your history in art.

Mrs. Ellet, for instance, says in her book concerning feminine artists that you entered the Academy here when a child before going to Ohio. Mrs. Morse assures me this is a mistake. Again the number of your children has been variously stated to me and I wished to mention that because something so remarkable for a woman
