I hope you will kindly excuse my verboseness of description. but it has been so long since I have sent any pictures to the Accademy [[academy]] of design,
and so many and brilliant artists have taken 
the place as judges, of the old friends I used to know as judges,
that I must confess I feel nervous, as to the success, of my pictures, which have been 
done under the most crushing accumulation 
of difficulties, and it follows of course that
I am anxious that at least their subject meaning should be well understood. hoping you
will appreciat my trepidation, at coming before you after my 'Ripvanwinklean', sleep to 
be judged by new eyes, new ways. I trust myself to your leniency and remain
