I find it extremely difficult to secure prompt and disinterested assistance from them.

The experiment of requiring tuition is being tried by the teachers of Friends' schools near Yorktown, and in Fort Magruder.

Five cents per week is charged, which may be paid in kind, in corn, potatoes, chickens, rabbits, hares, etc, etc.  The scholar who wishes a book traps a hare or rabbit which is exchanged for a Reader.  I highly approve of this movement in the direction of self-help, and have, of late, frequently and publicly urged them up to duty in this respect.
