L.B.P. 80 Hd. Qrs. 5th Div. 5th Sub. Dist. Va. New Kent. C.H. Va. Jan. 13th 1868 Bvt. Brig. Gen. O. Brown Assistant Commissioner Dist. of Va. General I have the honor to inform you that Irena Crump (col'd.) of New Kent, County has applied to me to have her grandchild returned to her. This child, she states, is now held by one Miles Ecoe who lives at the rocketts in Richmond: its name is Maria, aged about twelve years, & was formerly owned by a man named, Harden of New Kent, Co. Her grandmother says that Harden carried the child to Richmond, about the time that Richmond was evacuated, & bound the child out without her (the grandmother's) consent. She has applied to me for the child, & I trust it may receive the attention of the Bureau. The child may be sent by the cars to White House Landing. Very Respectfully, Your Obedient Servant
