But, the change above proposed, would occasion much travel and expense. The compensation of an Agent, $100.00 per month, is entirely insufficient to permit him to go, on long and frequent trips, putting up, with his house, at public houses, and, besides, leave him enough to care for himself and family, if he has one. 

I believe, that, besides, horse and equipments, traveling expenses, to the sum of $25 per month, should be allowed. 
There is, comparatively, nothing to do, in the office, the work is in the saddle. 

The line of Bureau operations, so far, as this Sub-Dist is concerned, should change to a more economical basis; with work to do, and fair compensation for it, a great deal can be accomplished. But, success will depend greatly, on the personal interest of Officers, in their work; without that spirit, without the right man, the field might as well be quitted. I trust measures will be taken to increase the number of common schools, and afford enlarged, educational
