Hampton Va Oct 1868
Personally appeared before me this 8th day of October 1868 D.V. Parington who being duly sworn deposes & says that he has been a clerk in the Bureau R.F. & A.L. since the 31st day of July 1867 and that he knows of his own personal knowledge, that the horse shipped to Maj. J.H. Remington SA Comr 1st Sub Dist Va on the 8th day of August 1868 has been in the possession of the Bureau since July 31 1867 & that to the best of his knowledge & belief the said horse has been in the possession of the Bureau since the latter part of the year 1865 and that the Horse was in better condition on the 8th day of August 1868 than he had been for a year previous to that date, and that the above mentioned Horse was a very, large Iron Grey quite advanced in life & that to the best of his knowledge & belief no Horses the Property of the Bureau ofor which S.C. Armstrong S.A.C. 5 Sub Dist is or has been responsible, have ever been exchanged for any other Horses since the date of his appointment in the Bureau R.F. & A.L and that it would have been almost impossible for such exchanges to be made without his knowledge.
