Sir:
In reply to your communication of Oct. 24th stating that it appears from the records of your office that the clerical force in this Sub. Dist. is larger than is necessary for the work to be performed, and directing that I send the name of one whose services I would prefer to dispense with, I would state that, in case one of my clerks must be discharged, the name of D.V. Purington is submitted for that purpose.

I would however respectfully and must earnestly request to be allowed the service of both my clerks till the end of the current year for the following reasons viz.
