Respectfully forwarded to Gen'l S.C. Armstrong, S.A. Com'r, 5th Sub Dist, Va, for instructions. There is no record upon the files of this office in relation to this case. If there was any record of the case it must have been sent forward without being copied upon the record Book of cases tried by Freedmans Court at that time.

I understand by a gentleman who heard the conversation that the def'd't told Capt. Massey he would never pay the amount rendered against him in in the case.
