Richmond Oct 3d 1868

Dear Sir
Having been informed that Doct. CR Bricken is an applicant for the position of one of the Physicians in the Freedmen's Bureau, I take pleasure in endorsing him as a gentleman and skilful physician. My business for many years previous to the War - and during the existence of slavery was that of general Agent, in which I had the control and management of a very large number of servants hired out annually.

Doct Bricken was the physician employed in the large major of the cases of sickness, and the assiduous attention and treatment of all cases under his charge gave the fullest satisfaction in every respect - In fact I think no better silection of a Physician to the Freedman's Bureau could be made for the satisfaction of the Freedmen themselves than that of Doct Bricken - and as an entirely disinterested party I take pleasure in recommending him to the position he seeks.

Very Respectfully
Your Obt Servant
