Genl,

We the undersigned citizens of King George Co Va were, on the 12th day of October, 1865, under a general order form your office, appointed members of the Freedman's Court for the County before above named. Since when we have constantly and faithfully attended to the office ordinance, duties of the office, thereby losing much valuable time, which would otherwise have been profitably employed about our own personal affairs. We have all along, been led to believe by [[?]] of the Superintendent that we would be [[?]] for our services by the Govt.- But not as yet having been pain, and being still engaged in the duties of the office, we therefore apply to you for information as to [[underlined]] how [[/underlined]] and [[underlined]] when [[/underlined]] we are to [[underlined]] expect compensation [[/underlined]] for our services- We have held court
