A contract was made on the 14th day this month, with S. Bartlett Henney M.D. as A.A. Surg. He was placed on duty at Richmond and surroundings. This addition to the Medical Staff was made necessary by the large demands for medical assistance for indigent freedmen, larger than previously, owing to the fact that so many of them are out of employment. It was found that A.A. Surgeon Young, who had been engaged in this duty could not meet the requirements.

The City of Richmond and surroundings have been divided into two Districts, the Eastern and Western: the line of division "15th st." Manchester attached to the Eastern District. This makes a fair division of work, and both find at present, full employment. The two are able to meet the demand for assistance.
