General,
I have the honor to report in reply to your instructions received this morning - that judging from Dr. Carey's weekly report, and from assurances given me in private corespondance with Capt. Massey on the subject, I must come to the conclusion that he is thoroughly occupied - or at least has been during the winter and spring thus far - with professional duty in the Dispensary, and in attention to the sick at and about Yorktown. Capt. Massey assures me that he is the most industrious, competent, and faithful officer that has been on duty at that place.
This much I can state of the past. Now of the future - Hoping that with the more mild and equal weather of the advancing season the demands upon the time and attention of Dr Cary will be somewhat lessened, I wrote him, urging if possible, without neglect [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] of any absolutely necessary duty at his station and surroundings - that he shall make one and if possible two weekly visits to Williamsburg in order to meet any pressing need of Medical assistance in that
