I have the honor, as directed by you, to report "the repairs and additions which are necessary to make the insane inmates of Howard's Grove Hospital comfortable" viz:

1st An additional small ward to be built some distance from the present ward for the insane with cells for eight or ten noisy and raving patients. The necessity of this for the comfort of the more quiet and for their chances of rapid recovery is obvious. The two classes should be separated.

2d The roof of the old ward now occupied, is in a very bad condition and it is doubtful whether any repairs to the present covering will make it water tight. The roof is settled and sprung in many places, and has from time to time received support, but in my view it will not be safe for any considerable length of time. It appears to me that its supports should be carefully repaired and the roofing replaced by new.

3d The main upright supports of the sides and ends
