I have the honor to state, that I have just made an informal inspection of the Alms House for Col'd persons City of Richmond.  I was received by the Superintendent with much courtesy, and shown through every part of the building occupied.  As my visit was in the forenoon, and unexpected, I  had a fair opportunity to judge of the usual condition of the wards, and occupants, and found them both satisfactory.  The inmates of the Alms House seem to be treated with kindness.  I had an opportunity to see the diet-table for the day, and the food for dinner in process of being cooked.  The cooking appears to be not the only neatly done but well done.  The whole arrangement seems to be on a very liberal scale.  I had an opportunity to converse freely with many of the inmates of the house well known to me (having met them very often at Howard Grove Hospital) They all expressed themselves perfectly contented.
