Sir:-

I have the honor to return herewith the statement of Scott Egleston (cold) with the following statement. I was present as he states during the whole of his trial and had there been any injustice or unfairness I should have so reported it. From the evidence adduced I could see no other way for the Jury but to pronounce him in their verdict Guilty. From the nature of the case, I was more than usually interested, saw him a number of times before the trial, relative to his witnesses and they were all summoned and testified on the stand; he was defended by two as able lawyers as practice at this bar, 

As to the sentence, I think there was no severity in that
