As to the testimony of Blanton and Mangold, I have no reason for doubt as to their truthfulness, I believe them to be men of good standing. I learn from both white and colored that Egleston bears a hard name, as being a violent, desperate man. He escaped from jail the night of the day of his trial, he also escaped once before his trial and was arrested in Richmond, there released before the Sheriff of this County appeared, and afterwards rearrested in this County, by what means he escaped I know not.
