I respectfully ask for information for the benefit of Friends and Self in the Republican partie of Petersburg, If those in your Department at this port are allowed or justifiable in taking part with our City Elections & Nominations for officers belonging to City or Counties I would state that Maj Stone & Lew't Ayres are taking a very active part so much so that with their influence & there possitions they both have been the means of nominating & recommending men to fill offices who are barely Citizens of City or State  We have found another Union Man competant to fill office of trust &c among us born & raised  & we [[?]] [[?]] with such steps as taken by them  Genl. I wd also state that others of a very late appointment made by you and stumping the counties for self interest. I trust this will have your attention. I am a Citizen & have been for 24 years & I respectfully refer you to any & all of the Republican Partie of Petg. whom I am ever known too
