have made me responsible for (86) eighty-six carts instead of (23) twenty-three as the number in June I receipted for should have been added to those already taken up on the Fort Monroe side. Now the Rebels who obtained Pardon from our Andrew ("Andy") claimed all these carts at sight and I let them have them until those last disposed of at Auction which seemingly cleared my papers but as it now appears left (40) still unaccounted for.

Now General if you will say that you were knowing to the facts and that my statement, sworn to before a Justice, is substantially true before a justice I think I shall get clear of the accountability for the carts. I dont know as I have made the matter sufficiently clear to warrant you in doing this but I have done my best and will leave you to act as you please in the matter

Please return papers as usual to me at Wilbraham Mass.

I am General
