Temperance has at last taken a start among the freedmen in the City. This is traceable to a speech delivered by the Hon. Harry Wilson, Senator from Mass. and to the exertions of Capt. B.C. Cook A.S.A.C.

Our Schools are flourishing and strangers visiting same unhesitatingly say their organization and manner of imparting knowledge is a complete success.

On the whole, with the exception of want of labor for those ready and willing to work in the City, I feel that the condition of Freedmen in this Sub-Dist has greatly advanced, especially in morals, and that a great improvement for the better is clearly perceptible.
