Corn Bread, baked at Howard Grove Hospital and One and one half (1 1/2) pints of good nourishing Soup. The Soup house has now been in existence about Eight (8) months. It has proved a great serving to the Government and a great blessing to the indigent. We have given to all who have the least claim upon us without distinction of Color, and do most cheerfully recommend its continuance.
Temperance is gaining slight headway under the herculean efforts of Capt. R.C. Cook, and other advocates of the cause; indeed its good is already perceptible, and I hope the sad experience passed through by the freedmen last Winter, has not been without its good results in this matter, and we hope their money, instead of being spent for intoxicating beverages as in the past, are now laid by to meet their wants when the trying times come again.
