A great deal of stealing is going on caused by the scarcity of corn & meat quite a large number have been arrested, sent on for trial & bailed out by their friends among the Freedmen but I think it very probable that white men are engaged in the stealing of the corn & meat as well as Freedmen for among the poor there is a great scarcity as well among whites as blacks.
