Monday Morning, I immediately took measures to ascertain all the facts of the case with a view to reporting them, and was engaged in doing so when your letter was received. Should it be thought that I should have seen a report of the case in the papers, I can only reply that I take one Daily, and saw no reference to it in that. Owing to my illness, I had not during the time consulted other Dailies, as had been my usual custom.

With reference to the other important cases of which mention was made in your letter, I have no knowledge of them whatever. I have, however, held myself in readiness to hear every complaint no matter at what hour made. and have at all times, taken every means in my power to secure justice to the injured party. More than this I cannot do; but this it has been my steady purpose to do, and will continue to be, while I shall remain in the position.

Very respectfully,
Your obt serv't,

Ira Ayen [?] Jr.
AJ Aleomen [?]
