I have the honor to call your attention to the following case which I deem proper to report. In the month of May last of or near Wilsons Landing, Charles City County, one Fleming Binns and Henry Smith, the latter a freedman became engaged in a quarrel which it seems originated from a "fish fry" at which Smith had been invited: angry words ensued when Smith replied to an insulting remark offered by Binns in which he called the latter no gentlemen or words to that effect. Binns without another word willfully seized a piece of iron weighing about four pounds which he hurled at Smith with great force. The piece of iron struck Smith
