of the late AShland Hotel now Randolph Macon College. The agent went before a justice of the Peace and made Oath that he believed that the said property was secreted in ten houses near Ashland, occupied by Colored men and their families.
I wish to clearly state this case, the agent of the said College on his Oath before a justice of the Peace, swore that he believed that the Seven Window sSash stolen from the grounds of Macon Randolph College were secreted in ten different homes (including about all the colored residents of the Village of Ashland) in Ashland. The enlightened and intelligent of J. P granted the warrant, placed the same in the hands of a Constable and after diligently searching the said ten houses failed- even after taking from the windows the sashes of said homes- to find the missing articles; but in their search the came across three gunsbelonging to the Colored men, which they without law or authority took and now hold to use the same against these
